Anti-Wrinkle

What are wrinkle relaxing injections used for?

Wrinkle relaxing injections are used to simply and effectively improve dynamic lines and wrinkles. They are commonly referred to as Botox® which is a brand name for a product used when performing these injections. This have become one of the most popular non-surgical treatments to date. We develop lines and wrinkles through constant use of our facial muscles which can lead to them becoming deeper and more noticeable. Injections can relax specific muscles in order to treat the existing lines and also prevent deeper formation in the long term. This means that skin looks smoother, rejuvenated and more youthful. The same type of injections are widely and safely used within the NHS to treat a variety of conditions – muscle spasm, spasticity in children and blepharospasm to name a few. Since 1987 it has become very widely used for aesthetic medical facial treatments and excessive sweating in the underarms, hands and feet (see Treatment for sweating -Hyperhidrosis).

How do wrinkle relaxing injections work?

You will require a full medical consultation prior to booking any treatment for wrinkle relaxing injections. During this we will assess your suitability and explain the procedure in depth.

Small amounts of purified protein (Brands include Botox®, Azzalure®, Bocouture®,) are injected through a tiny needle into specific areas of over active muscle. This targets the muscles frequently used, for example when frowning, which can cause undesirable lines on our skin. It blocks the nerve impulses which send signals to our muscles to contract. This results in reduced movement in this area and the reduction of the lines and wrinkles on the overlying skin. As the muscles are treated very specifically it will not alter the rest of your facial expression or smile. The result is a rejuvenated, natural look. This effect is not permanent and the muscles would eventually return to their pre treatment state after several months if treatment is not continued.

Here at Emma York Clinic we are completely committed to achieving natural results in line with your personal age and skin condition. This will avoid creating a very 'over done' look which is unnatural and undesirable.

How are the injections administered and what results can I expect?

The needles used are very tiny so you should not experience anything more than a mild discomfort at the site. The treatment is quick, usually takes no longer than 15 minutes, and you can resume normal activities after with minimal downtime. Your practitioner will provide you with any aftercare advice following your treatment. Most patients will notice the effects start after 3-4 days but the overall effect will take up to 14 days. For this reason we always follow our clients up at 2-3 weeks and if required we can adjust the dose to ensure we have achieved optimal treatment for you as everybody is individual in their anatomy.

How many treatments will I need and how long will the effects last?

The length of the treatment effects vary in individuals but on average wrinkle relaxing injections will last 3-6 months before you require re treatment. The effects are dependent on individual anatomy and lifestyle factors. Many people find that once they have had a few treatments, and the undesirable lines have softened, they can increase the time period between treatments. In the interim, they still maintain the benefits and rejuvenated look.
